Al-khawaja

About the project
The site is dedicated to ABDULHADI AL-KHAWAJA, human rights defender, activist and leader, funder and first President of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights (BCHR), Co-Director of the Gulf Center for Human Rights (GCHR), former Protection Coordinator for Front Lone Defenders (FLD), writer and poet, Nobel Peace Prize nominee. He was detained in 2011 in Bahrain after participating in peaceful protestto demand fundamental freedoms in Bahrain, and he remains in prison to this day.

Task

To create a website that would help people access up-to-date information about his imprisonment, the trial, and to help spread the word about his story. To do this, we implemented a search for information from social networks by hashtags and a selection of all relevant news.

One section of the website indicates six ways to help Al – Khawaja:

  1. Social media campaigns.
  2. Wikipedia edits.
  3. Sign the latest petitions.
  4. Track diplomatic missions to Bahrain and putting pressure on worldwide diplomats.
  5. Suggest a call to action.
  6. Become a volunteer

Result

Our team implemented this project from scratch through the full development circle: idea, wireframing, design, development, and testing. This project involved illustrators creating graphic portraits of ABDULHADI AL-KHAWAJA. We sincerely hope that this site will help liberate him and show the world that everyone has to fight for his freedom and for basic freedoms in his country.
